Exploratour - Water on Mars
Martian Water Cycle?
After looking at all the evidence, scientists have two ideas about what happens to water on Mars. These ideas conflict with each other.
1.) Warm weather causes river channels and floods, which release water into the atmosphere. Rain returns water to the same ground. The result is that *water is recycled*, or water is returned to the surface of Mars during periods of warm weather.
2.) Floods have caused water to flow (over a long time) from the higher ground to low ground. It has not been released again, even when the weather becomes warm, but remains frozen into the ground .
How can we tell which of these ideas is correct? Further exploration of Mars would help find the answers.
